MATT STAMP

Matt Stamp is a highly respected Master Sommelier, wine educator, and co-founder of Compline Wine Bar, Restaurant & Merchant in Napa, California. With a deep passion for wine, he earned his Master Sommelier title in 2011, distinguishing himself as one of the top wine professionals in the world.  Before launching Compline, Stamp built his career as a sommelier at renowned establishments such as The French Laundry in Yountville.

Matt Stamp's true gift lies in making wine approachable.  He has an unmatched ability to connect people with extraordinary wines in an inviting, down-to-earth way.  Stamp curates a wine program that highlights small producers, emerging regions, and wines with a true sense of place. He has been a champion for honest winemaking, celebrating the stories behind the bottles and giving a platform to underrepresented winemakers.  With Compline, Stamp has built more than just a wine bar—he has created a gathering place for wine lovers, industry professionals, and newcomers alike. His commitment to hospitality, education, and the local wine community has made Napa and San Francisco’s wine scenes richer and more dynamic.

Stamp has also dedicated much of his career to mentoring and educating the next generation of wine professionals.  As the former Education Director for the Court of Master Sommeliers Americas, he helped shape the curriculum that has trained thousands of sommeliers. His ability to break down complex wine concepts into engaging, memorable lessons has made him a leading voice in wine education.  Stamp is a respected writer, speaker, and industry influencer.  His insights on wine trends, service, and terroir are sought after by sommeliers, winemakers, and enthusiasts alike.  He consistently pushes the conversation forward, ensuring that wine remains exciting, accessible, and deeply connected to culture and history.
